Description
Take on an important role in a world-class health organization at our Department of Computational Medicine at UCLA. The department provides a hub for collaborations across the UCLA campus to enable scientific discovery in biomedical data sciences and then works hand in hand with the UCLA Health System to apply these discoveries to improve patient care. Within UCLA’s campus lies a prestigious medical school, a world-class research hospital, and nationally-ranked departments within the engineering school with significant strength in data sciences. UCLA has developed a next generation sequencing-based technology for COVID-19 diagnostic testing and is looking for a Genomic Technology Scientist. Individual will work on genomic technology to support and expand the Swab-Seq platform, apply the technology to testing services and expand the technology to other translational research projects. Under the guidance of the Core Director, this role will also help develop and conduct new protocols and applications and assist with the implementation of new laboratory development projects and supervise existing lab personnel. Duties include: * Overseeing testing for our SwabSeq COVID testing laboratory. * Performing PCR analysis on a large volume of assays. * Reviewing the technology utilized and develop/recommend to apply to other translational research projects. * Developing new protocols and applications for SwabSeq technology. * Performing other duties and participating in meetings/projects as assigned by management. Salary range: $50,700.00 – $100,300.00 Annual
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications
Required: * Experience working with sequencing technology. * Demonstrated lab supervisory skills. * Strong background in the field of NGS technologies. * Wide range of molecular biology skills, including DNA and RNA extraction, reverse transcription, in vitro transcription, PCR, QRT-PCR. * Ability to perform gel electrophoresis and RNA analysis. * Experience tissue culture and procedures, cell maintenance type work, and cell proliferations assays. * Skills in isolation of biological materials, (DNA, RNA and protein) from tissues and cell lines, as well as the cataloging and management of resources using relational computer databases. PhD in molecular biology, genetics, or biotechnology is preferred.
