Job Description



Urgent!!   We need a General Services Technician.  This position assists with transporting tools, parts, equipment, and supplies to customer's locations around campus. Moves records, files and file cabinets, and furniture between campus locations; and assists with a Department's relocation needs. Our General Services Technician also assists with set-up and tear-down for scheduled special events around campus inside or outside.  OU-Tulsa prides itself on excellent customer service delivery for our special events which are scheduled by outside paying parties as well as our Departments.  These events include small and large conferences, Graduation Commencement Ceremonies, medical conferences and presentations, and outside private events such as weddings, receptions and reunions.  The General Services Technician also is responsible for signage placement around campus prior to events.

Out General Services Technician performs or assists others with small work orders received from Departments.  Assembles and installs furniture and equipment and performs minor repairs on equipment and furniture.  Assists in cleanup and repairs on inside locations not included in contracts with external agencies. Our General Services Technician p erforms others planned and emergent tasks not requiring a skilled technician. Additionally, this position is responsible for removing recycled material, providing backup for mailroom personnel, and assisting with any building emergencies during their normal shift as well as on nights or weekends.


Job Requirements


Required Education: 

High School Diploma or equivalent. 


-Excellent customer service skills and must be able to work successfully  in a team situation with a diverse group  staff.

-Must be able to follow directions and office policies and procedures.

-Must be able to report to the work location regularly and on time.

-Must be able to regularly utilize and maintain power hand tools.

-Must be able to be trained on other maintenance equipment such as a forklift truck, etc.

-Must be able to follow all workplace safety rules and regulations.

-Must be able to comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence. 

-Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees.  

-Must have the following math skills: ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio,  and percent to and draw and interpret bar graphs.



Must have valid Oklahoma driver's license at time of application.


Advertised Physical Requirements:

-Interior and exterior maintenance environment and exposure including ability to frequently lift 45 lbs. or more.

-Must have ability to regularly climb ladders, scaffolding or poles where agility or balance is an issue.

-Must be able to set up folding furniture.

-Must be able to frequently crouch, crawl, bend or stoop including placing the body in an uncomfortable position to accomplish a task.

-Ability to perform repetitive motions using hand tools or hand power tools.

-Frequent walking over smooth and rough areas, up and down staircases, indoors and outdoors including moving by foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for extended periods of time or over a long distance.
