$20.00 – $25.00 per hour; DOE


Essential Duties

Performs the more complex plumbing, electrical and carpentry maintenance and repairs constructing partitions and small out buildings, installing plumbing pipe and related plumbing fixture. Performs general painting, plumbing, electrical and carpentry repairs, such as, repairs damaged walls and doors; paints inside and outside building walls; replaces windows; refinishes and repairs furniture. Uses power and hand tools to perform repair and maintenance work. Operates forklifts, dollies and other basic loading and unloading equipment as required. Drives trucks to transport materials such as furniture, supplies or equipment as required. Services equipment used by oiling, greasing and adding gas as required. Provides technical direction, coordinates the work schedules and reviews the performance of assigned personnel. May install and maintain fixtures and facilities. Building lab benches, tables, cabinets, countertops, shelving units, wood and metal fabrication, renovating offices and laboratories.


Minimum Qualifications

Two years of general maintenance and repair experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Employee may be required to possess a valid US Driver’s license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment.  Some positions in this classification may be required to obtain an Environmental Protection Agency Type 1 refrigeration license upon employment.

  • Experience in working in large organizations and/or educational institutions.
  • Experience with commercial tenant improvement, including steel stud framing, drywall application and finishing, painting, door hardware and millwork installation.
  • Experience in sweating copper pipes.
  • Experience in cabinet-making and shop tools.
  • Experience in furniture installation.      
  • Experience in using computers and the Microsoft Office software.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills.

Working Environment

  • Work in offices, labs, clean rooms, carpenter and/or welding shops, ranging from extremely clean to dirty.
  • Lifting and carrying weights up to 50 pounds.
  • Working from ladders and/or scaffolding.
  • Hearing protection 
  • Potential exposure to hazardous agents
