General Maintenance and Crew Worker (Facilities Services General 1 – MR04)

UTC Arena 

University of Tennessee, Chattanooga

 

 

The General Maintenance and Crew Worker performs preventative maintenance on equipment in the arena; general maintenance and repairs; and assists with the setup of the basketball court and stages for concerts that are held in the facility.

 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  •          Performs regular maintenance on equipment in the arena
  •          Provides assistance to events and staff when needed for various events
  •          Ensures equipment at the arena is in working order
  •          Makes recommendations on repair or replacement options for parts or equipment
  •          Supports the facilities department by repairing or replacing equipment in the arena
  •          Repairs the basketball court and provides other carpentry skills as needed
  •          Assists the electrician and the maintenance crew when needed
  •          Installs and repairs equipment and facility attributes where necessary
  •          Repairs and paints areas in the facility where needed and recommend corrective action on areas that need attention
  •          Provides input on the needs of the facility
  •          Supervises, assists, and provides input on equipment needs and repairs
  •          Monitors and schedules maintenance needs on university equipment (risers, basketball court, and stage pieces)
  •          Performs basic plumbing duties as needed in the arena

 

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  •          Must have general contractor knowledge
  •          Must be able to estimate material and labor cost
  •          Possess a can-do attitude for events held at the arena
  •          Knowledge of maintenance procedures
  •          General knowledge of electricity
  •          Skilled painter and plumber
  •          Good communication skills
  •          Ability to lift between 25 and 75 pounds

 

This position requires long and irregular hours in order to meet the needs of the facility and various promoters who sponsor events. Must understand this job requires nights, weekends, and holiday work.

Minimum Qualifications: Typically requires a high school diploma and 6 months of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: Vocational or technical degree; 3-5 years of carpentry, painting, plumbing and general repair; skilled painter; and general knowledge of electricity are preferred.
