Job Description

---

The Gender + Equality Center (GEC) Peer Educator is responsible for facilitating various sexual misconduct prevention presentations to undergraduate students. GEC Peer Educators educate OU students about consent, healthy relationships, active bystander intervention, and resources for victims of sexual misconduct.

The Gender + Equality Peer Educator will facilitate the following presentations/events:

  • The Consent Conversation: Is a mandatory workshop for first-year students at OU to discuss what consent is - and what it is not. In this 1-hour interactive presentation led by peer educators, participants practice asking for consent, handling conflict and rejection, as well as accessing resources for survivors of gender-based violence.
    • 4,500 first-year students will receive The Consent Conversation training at Camp Crimson, OU’s premier orientation camp. Camp Crimson will take place in mid-August 2024, during the days leading up to the first day of classes. GEC Peer Educators must be available to work during this time. Students may apply to be both a GEC Peer Educator and a Small Group Leader (SGL).
  • The Consent Conversation 2.0: Asks participants to further apply what they learned in their initial Consent Conversation workshop. Facilitated by peer educators, this 1-hour interactive presentation utilizes video clips from popular media to help reinforce students’ understanding of how consent is – and is not – communicated. Participants will also examine the roots of sexual violence and tips for helping a friend.
  • #RelationshipGoals: A 1-hour interactive workshop educates students on the do’s and don’ts of healthy relationships. Taught by undergraduate peer educators, the #RelationshipGoals workshop utilizes clips from popular tv shows to examine the key communication and navigation skills needed to build and maintain healthy dating relationships.
  • Boundaries Workshop: Asks participants to examine their own relationship non-negotiables and how their personal preferences may differ from others. This 40-minute highly interactive workshop led by GEC staff members includes an in-depth discussion on the various types of boundaries, standing firm in your own boundaries, and how to respond when a partner's boundaries differ from yours.
  • The Consent Bar: An interactive exercise, led by our Peer Educators, in asking and giving consent through serving non-alcoholic mocktails and engaging in conversation with participants.
  • Other Duties: At various times you may be asked to participate in tabling for the office, helping an event, or other task within the office.

  Job Responsibilities:

  • Present sexual misconduct prevention workshops to small and large groups of students.
  • Respond to students’ questions about sexual misconduct and bystander intervention, and refer students to campus resources.
  • Collect, deliver, set up, take down, and return presentation supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure attendance records and program evaluations are administered and complete.
  • Attend required Bi-weekly Meetings.

Required Availability:

  • Attend Peer Educator training (in-person) around the first/second weeks of August 2024 (specific dates and times TBD).
  • Available to present The Consent Conversation presentation during Camp Crimson in August 2024 (specific dates and times TBD).
  • Available up to 4 hours per week during the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters (specific hours will be based on availability and training requests).
