Position Summary
Organization Overview
The Geriatric Emergency Department Collaborative (GEDC) is a national initiative developed in 2016, comprised of 9 leading health systems, all with a commitment to the dissemination and advancement of geriatric care within the Emergency Department (ED). Jointly funded by the John A. Hartford Foundation (JAHF) and West Health (WH), the sole mission of the GEDC is to:
Transform, catalyze, and evaluate interdisciplinary best practices for the optimal emergency care of older patients.
To accomplish its mission the GEDC is establishing a coordinating center (GEDC CC) to coordinate, organize, and collaborate with national organizations and interdisciplinary professionals in geriatrics and emergency medicine to advance the mission of the GEDC. While the GEDC CC will provide overarching coordination, multiple national organizations are being asked to take a leading role(s) based on their strengths, capacity and experience to advance specific objectives of the GEDC. We are seeking a Program Director (PD), in partnership with the GEDC Principal Investigators (PI’s) to collaboratively develop, manage, and lead the GEDC CC.
The Program Director (PD) will report to the GEDC Co-Principal Investigators (Co-PIs) in supporting the GEDC CC in developing, organizing, coordinating, implementing, and executing projects and activities that our focus on the GEDC mission of transforming, catalyzing, and evaluating best practices in interdisciplinary geriatric emergency care. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic, cross-functional, multi-organizational environment that supports transformation of geriatric emergency care and organizes external partnerships.
This position is based in Chapel Hill, NC at the University of North Carolina. The PD will also attend regular team meetings at GEDC sites and other locations as needed. This is a full-time role for the duration of the grant (3 years) with the potential to continue past the duration of the grant pending additional support and development of a sustainability strategy.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.

  • Clinical Emergency Medicine experience.
  • Must have excellent people and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
  • Graduate degree (i.e., MBA, MPA, MPH, or related field) is preferred .
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
  • Communicates ideas and information clearly, simply, and appropriately for the situation and audience.
  • Interest in new technologies or ability to assess new technologies a plus.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and willing to take a stance.
  • Team player and able to adapt quickly to new areas of focus.
  • Strong ability to interact and collaborate with all levels of management and cross-functional teams.
