GCU Facilities manages and services all university-owned property. By the development and maintenance of the GCU campus and surrounding areas, the GCU Facilities team aims to support and ensure the accomplishment of the university’s mission. By working creatively and collaboratively, the Facilities team fulfills the needs of the university by successfully managing resources while delivering excellent customer service.

Grand Canyon University is currently seeking a fulltime Locksmith. The Locksmith responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: examples of key duties are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature. The following duties are listed both as trade specific and shared responsibilities.


  • Install, repair and maintain commercial lockable hardware such as doors, automatic electric door,

  • windows, lockers and magnetic keying systems to ensure safety of facilities.

  • Produce and/or modify hardware for locks.

  • Make new keys; replace broken or lost keys.

  • Design and maintain master key system.

  • Design, modify, and implement security policies and procedures.

  • Design, implement and maintain preventative maintenance program.

  • Cleans, maintains, adjusts, calibrates and services equipment used in the performance of duties.

  • Monitors work done by outside contractors for adherence to state and federal Code Requirements

  • and reports back to supervisor.

  • Assists in the writing of specifications for repairs and new construction.


  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working as a locksmith.

  • Must have high school degree.

  • Valid Driver's License and clean driving record.

  • Must have sufficient knowledge of the methods, materials and tools used int eh locksmith trade, including complex access and control systems; thorough knowledge of all types of locks, fastening devices and related hardware.

  • Must have sufficient knowledge of relevant building codes, legislation, regulations, policies and procedures installation and maintenance, particularly pertaining to fire exits and door hardware.

  • Must have working knowledge of electrical locking and security systems and devices.

  • Must be able to perform journey-level commercial locksmith work.

  • Must have the physical skills and endurance to move about campus and the buildings in order to fulfill daily maintenance tasks and activities.

  • Self- motivated and shows initiative to start and complete tasks.

  • Must be familiar with, and follow, safety requirements and precautions.

  • Detail oriented with good troubleshooting skills.

  • Must be able to present professional demeanor in all interactions.

  • Good communications skills with a good command of the English language

  • Willing to respond to emergency requests outside of normal work hours.

  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, or extended hours as needed.

  • Must have own tools.

  • Must be willing to operate work ticketing system and update to be able to inform status of work.

  • Must be willing to participate in rotating on call schedules.

  • Ability to pass background investigations.
