General Summary
The majority of the graduate teaching assistants primary duties are in support of instruction including but not limited to the responsibilities below:
1. Serve as a primary or secondary teaching instructor in a class or laboratory
2. Assist a faculty member with teaching-related tasks
3. Grade student assignments which require knowledge of subjects taught in a class or
laboratory
4. Meet with and/or tutor students, hold office hours, prepare instructional materials, and assist
during class and/or lab, etc. For this position, Teaching Assistants typically will teach two
sections of GEO 102 - Principles of Geology. Some positions may be assigned after August
enrollment for class ends.
Required Qualifications
1. Eligible for appointment as per the requirements in the Graduate Assistant Handbook which can be found at http://hr.illinoisstate.edu/downloads/GA_Handbook.pdf
2. If this position is Security Sensitive or if you are subject to a criminal background investigation based on University policy, employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation. You may not begin work until the criminal background investigation results have been received and cleared by Human Resources.
3. Must be a degree seeking graduate student in Hydrogeology Master's program at Illinois State University.
4. For Teaching Assistant positions, State law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in the
English language as a requirement for this position.
Work Hours
Will be determined at a staff meeting TBA in January about a week before classes begin or by the supervising faculty.
