Job Description:

The Department of Communication at the University at Albany invites applications for the position of Full-Time Lecturer (10 Months) in Communication, a non-tenure track position with the possibility of renewable term appointments. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the Department's new online major program that will start in the fall term of 2024. The normal teaching load is three online courses per semester in the areas of public speaking, mass media, and/or strategic communication, as determined by the needs of the program.

The individual hired will be responsible for developing and delivering relevant online courses, facilitating engaging learning, assessing student work, providing constructive feedback, holding regular virtual office hours, staying updated on industry trends, and participating in regularly scheduled online meetings with the Department Chair, Director of Undergraduate Studies, and Administrative Manager. The online courses that the individual hired may teach or develop involve topics, such as crisis communication, digital content strategy, media literacy, introduction to mass media, message design, principles and practices of advertising and/or public relations, strategic writing, and strategic campaign management. The type of online course delivery (e.g., asynchronous, synchronous, mixed synchronous/asynchronous) may alternate and will be at the discretion of the University.


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A master's degree in communication or related fields (e.g., advertising, public relations) from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization by 8/1/2024. Candidates who will not hold the degree by this date will not be considered
  • A minimum of 1-year experience teaching online asynchronous courses as the instructor of record at the college level
  • Experience teaching online courses as the instructor of record at the college-level related to public speaking, mass media, and/or strategic communication
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A doctoral degree in Communication or related fields (e.g., advertising, public relations)
  • Professional experience in strategic communication 
  • Experience teaching asynchronous online courses as the instructor of record at the college level related to public speaking, mass media, and/or strategic communication


Additional Information:

Professional Rank and Salary Range: Lecturer (10 Month); $50,000.

Special Notes: The responsibilities of this position can be fulfilled wholly remotely. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
