Position Summary
The Department of Art + Design invites applications for a full-time Instructor in Digital Foundations to support the first-year experience for students studying art and design. This is a three-year position which will begin August 2024.
The APSU Department of Art + Design is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design and offers BFA and BA degrees with concentrations in Studio Art, Graphic Design, Animation and Visual Effects, Art History, and Art Education. The department consists of seventeen full-time faculty, three support staff, and twelve part-time instructors who celebrate the mission of teaching and innovation in serving 300+ undergraduate majors. Three on-campus galleries support the Art + Design programs and the growing art community in nearby Nashville provides ample opportunities for professional and student exhibitions. In Fall of 2017 the Department moved into a new $21.3 million-dollar, 46,000 square feet Art + Design Building, featuring custom studio space for all the concentrations. Austin Peay State University is located less than an hour north of Nashville in the city of Clarksville, TN which was named the #1 Best Place to Live in 2019 by Money Magazine. Clarksville offers accessible amenities in combination with easy access to the outdoors all within an affordable lifestyle that is 13% below the national average.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
· Teaching a 4/4 course load that includes, but is not limited to, Digital Foundations (Foundations Studio 3) and Introduction to Art. Other classes could be taught based upon expertise.
· Teaching all levels of students, who come from diverse backgrounds.
· Implement a range of pedagogy and resources in curriculum including the application of technology in creative practice.
· Participating in the assessment of the students, program, and department through portfolio reviews and capstone reviews.
· Maintaining an awareness of contemporary art, design, and relevant technological advancements, and sharing that awareness in the classroom.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Depth of knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud applications with specific experience in Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, and InDesign.

Preference will be given to candidates with an MFA in studio art, graphic design, animation, visual effects or a related field completed by August 1, 2024 but this does not preclude those a combination of relevant graduate level education and professional experience from applying.
Preferred Qualifications
· The ideal candidate has background, education or experience in Graphic Design, Photography, Animation, or Visual Effects.
· Practicing, professional artist, effects artist, animator, or designer.
· One (1) year teaching experience including graduate teaching experiences.
· A background search will be required of the successful candidate.
