Full Time Instructor – Registered Dental Hygienist for Department of Oral Health Promotion Division of Community and Preventive Dentistry

Creighton University School of Dentistry is seeking a Registered Dental Hygienist to organize, deliver and sustain its community based oral health programs, specifically Healthy Smiles. Healthy Smiles is a portable, school-based prevention program that serves vulnerable and underserved populations. To address oral health disparities among the community, the Healthy Smiles program serves approximately 18 low-income elementary schools in the Omaha area. School children receive dental screenings, fluoride varnishes and dental sealants. The program also provides intensive dental care coordination services to assist families in overcoming barriers to accessing dental care.

 

 

The 12-month, full-time, non-tenure track Clinical Educator Instructor position will work with a team of dedicated faculty and leaders who are building on a rich legacy of excellence in dental education and expanding our capacity as a national resource for the dental profession.

Primary appointment will be in the Department of Oral Health Promotion, Division of Community and Preventive Dentistry.

 

 

Candidates must possess:

  • An unrestricted dental hygienist license in the State of Nebraska.
  • A Public Health Authorization for Treating Children and/or Public Health Authorization license in the State of Nebraska or be eligible for.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with PowerPoint and other educational tools and course content platforms.
  • A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a collegial, interdisciplinary environment.
  • Preferable background with public/private grants and funding processes.

 

 

Position responsibilities include:

Organize, deliver and sustain the department’s community based oral health programs, specifically Healthy Smiles; direct and oversee dental auxiliary staff in the Healthy Smiles program; pursue funding opportunities and carrying out associated grant management. Instruct dental students in content in classroom, lab and clinical/offsite settings, which includes but is not limited to; health record utilization and record entry, infection control, radiology, public health, behavioral sciences, special needs and working with diverse population groups. Provide guidance and monitoring of clinical compliance of students as to OSHA, HIPAA, and FERPA guidelines.  Additional assignments as assigned by the Chair of the Department of Oral Health Promotion or Division Head of Community and Preventive Dentistry.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Must have an unrestricted dental hygienist license in the State of Nebraska
  • Must have five years clinical dental hygiene experience
  • Must have or be eligible to have a Public Health Authorization for Treating Children and/or Public Health Authorization dental hygiene license in the State of Nebraska.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Familiarity with PowerPoint and other educational tools and course content platforms.
  • A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a collegial, interdisciplinary environment.
  • Exposure to or direct management of public/private grant funding opportunities.
