Description

The National Fire Research Laboratory at the NIST has expanded its fire research facility to enable simultaneous thermal (20 MW fire) and mechanical loading of multi-story buildings; making it a unique experimental venue and fantastic opportunity for groundbreaking research and publication. Experimental and theoretical investigations are needed on the behavior of full-scale reinforced concrete structural elements under massive, real-fire loading to study scaling effects and to characterize the complex processes that drive member degradation during a fire (e.g., spalling, moisture transport, steel-concrete bond). Qualified applicants with relevant experience in materials science, advanced sensing, structural testing, or numerical simulation are encouraged to apply.
