The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is seeking to fill a senior, tenured faculty position that will also have administrative and leadership responsibility for the nationally recognized Center for Integrative Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery (CICBDD).
The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy (ESOP, www.pharmacy.unc.edu) is one of five health science schools (Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, Public Health, Medicine) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is one of the oldest health science academic programs at Chapel Hill. The School’s mission is to advance health care through innovation in pharmacy practice, education, research and public service. The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy research mission is pursued in strong collaboration with scientists across the UNC campus, including those associated with the UNC School of Medicine, Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, and NC TraCS Institute.
The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is in the midst of unprecedented growth and success, as indicated by its recognition as the #1 School of Pharmacy in the United States by US News and World Report and #2 rank of NIH funding among schools of pharmacy. The transformative gift of $100 million to the School by Dr. Fred Eshelman, the establishment of the Eshelman Institute of Innovation (EII), and the launch of PharmAlliance, a comprehensive partnership comprising three leading pharmacy institutions at UNC, University College London, and Monash University, along with the combined efforts of a dynamic and committed faculty and staff, position the ESOP for continued increasing impact on the global stage.
The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is seeking a Director of the CICBDD, who will also be appointed to a full time, tenure-track position at the full professor level in the Division of Chemical Biology and Medicinal Chemistry. The candidate is expected to have the credentials to be named a full professor with tenure, to have an active and well-funded research program, and teach in the professional and graduate programs of the School. In their academic position, this faculty member will report to the Chair of the Division of Chemical Biology and Medicinal Chemistry. In their administrative position as Director, this position will report to the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education of the ESOP.
The Center for Integrative Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery (CICBDD, cicbdd.web.unc.edu) was created to bring dedicated medicinal chemistry expertise to bear on biological targets of therapeutic relevance. Chemists, chemical biologists, computational scientists, and assay development and compound profiling scientists work on project teams to develop valuable probes and progress targets through the drug discovery and development process. Under the guidance of its founding Director, Professor Stephen Frye, the CICBDD has established a strong record of collaborative translational science, and developed a highly reputed chemical biology program largely focused on chromatin regulation. Moving forward, the Center intends to build on this strength by adding expertise in neuroscience, an institutional priority at UNC, while continuing to pursue efforts in basic and translational science related to oncology.
The anticipated major responsibilities and distribution of effort of this faculty position are as follows:
As Director of CICBDD, this position will provide vision and leadership to advance the major research initiatives of the Center, and have the following responsibilities:
o Act as a key contact for potential collaborators across the UNC campus, maintaining the visibility and impact of the CICBDD on UNC translational science and the success of NC TraCS
As Full Professor in the Division of Medicinal Chemistry and Natural Products, this faculty member will have the following responsibilities:
o Maintain an active and funded research laboratory
• Ph.D. in medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, organic chemistry, or a related discipline
|Qualifications and Experience||
• Although the scientific area is open, candidates specializing in an aspect of chemical neuroscience are particularly sought
