The Fulbright Black Humanities Summer Institute at the University of Bristol is a three-week cultural and academic programme, inviting students to examine the histories, creative production and intellectual legacies of Africa and its diasporas that weave through contemporary debates around race and the humanities. 

Consciously anchored in Bristol , a city with roots deep in the histories of Transatlantic slavery and colonialism, radical thought and resistance and a vibrant cultural scene, the Summer Institute encourages students to explore the cycles and circuits that connect the city to broader national and global dialogues around race and the humanities.

is a three-week cultural and academic programme focusing on the theme

Scotland's History: Kingdom, Nation, People.


For a small country Scotland has a large historical footprint. From the making of the kingdom and the development of its identity as one of the nations of Europe, Scotland has retained a strong and changing sense of its past both as an independent state and as part of the United Kingdom.

This course examines Scotland’s rich history via the close study of some of the key aspects of the country’s past. It draws on the physical environment, material objects and written texts to provide a sense of the events and themes which have formed Scotland’s history.

This course is ideal if you are seeking a deeper understanding of Scotland’s history within the real-life historical locations across St Andrews and Scotland.

The programme will provide a comprehensive overview of the impact of economic and social change, structural and political reform, the relationship of the monarchy with the Welsh nation in the wake of the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the implications of dynamics such as migration for the politics of identity and nationhood and shifting perceptions of Welsh identity and nationhood.
