Job Description:

The Office of Housing & Residential Services is seeking a federal aid recipient for student employment. This position will be funded by federal work study dollars; only students that receive financial aid awards can be considered for this specific role. Please see below the specific duties and responsibilities of the position.

  • Operate via the front desk of an assigned residence hall as an initial point of contact and resource
  • Maintain the strictest level of confidentiality with information provided by the Department of Housing and Residential Services
  • Verify identities of persons entering the residence hall by departmental procedures and guidelines.
  • Understand, be able to articulate, and uphold university and Department of Housing and Residential Services policies and procedures
  • Address policy violations and be able to write necessary reports using the Maxient system.
  • Ensure that anyone entering the building is a resident of the building by having them scan their OneCard at the desk.
  • Ensure that students sign in any guests when entering the building.
  • Support RA staff during fire alarm activations.
  • Conduct regular rounds of the building to ensure policies and procedures are being followed, and to observe and document any concerns or issues in the building.
  • Communicate with RA on call staff to report any concerns, issues, or incidents.
  • Understand the conduct process and encourage residents and guests to be responsible for their behavior.
  • Answer the desk phone and forward any calls as appropriate.
  • Have an active role in student maintenance concerns in the buildings. Instruct residents on how to use the Brightly Solutions Asset Essentials system. CDAs will be expected to input work orders brought to their attention.
  • Seek support from Housing professional staff with any concerns that the CDA has.
  • Maintain a positive and professional demeanor at all times while working.
  • Maintain an organized and efficient working area at all times.
  • Respect equipment provided within the position needed to work. 
  • Serve as a positive role model in the community. 
  • Attend all training and meetings. There will be mandatory training at the start of each semester. It can be expected that there will be a CDA specific training along with a training for all student staff with the department.
  • Administrative tasks including, but not limited to: checking out equipment, filing papers, lock out support, etc. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

  • Requirements:

  • Must be able to work well both in a team setting and independently. 
  • Schedule availability must be flexible. 
  • CDA shifts will be built based off of your class schedule as it appears in Web4 - time at the start of the semester will allow for permanent swaps/shift pick up to fill the schedule 
  • Hiring priority given to those who can work both overnight and weekend shifts 
  • It is expected that all Community Desk Assistants have availability for at least four overnight weekday shifts (shifts that begin at or after 7pm to 7am Sunday nights through to Friday mornings) 
  • It is expected that all Community Desk Assistants have availability for at least four weekend shifts (Friday/Saturday/Sunday) that run 24 hours a day. 
  • A shift is anywhere between 2 and 4 hours from 10:30 PM to 7:30 AM during weekdays.
  • Ability to multi-task while providing excellent customer service to internal and external constituents. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Full time undergraduate student at Fitchburg State University (enrolled in 12+ credits each semester) 
  • GPA of 2.2 most recently completed semester and cumulatively. 
  • Be in good conduct standing with the university (no active sanctions). Applicants should be prepared to expand on past conduct history if requested. 
  • Prior experience living on campus is not required for eligibility. 
  • Fall 2023 Hires - Training and Opening required times: 
  • Must be able to come to campus as soon as Monday, August 28th (Will be permitted to move into your on campus living assignment at no charge if living on campus)
  • Must be available all day Tuesday, August 29-Saturday, September 2nd for training (exact hours TBD) 
  • Must be available between 7am to 5pm on Sunday, September 3rd-Wednesday, September 6th to support the move-in process for all residential students (exact hours during that time TBD)

  • Additional Information:

    Shift Information:  This is a full time undergraduate student only posting and you must have Federal Workstudy money allocated to you in your financial aid package. Please check your Web4 account to see if you were granted Federal Workstudy funds BEFORE you apply for this position.

    Shift will vary based on student schedules and the pay is $15 per hour.
