Job Description:

The TRIO SSS Office is seeking a student for employment. This position is funded by the university. All undergraduate students looking for employment are welcome to make application for this position. Please see below the specific duties and responsibilities for this role.

  • Full time student at Fitchburg State University
  • Part of TRIO SSS for at least 2 Academic Semesters
  • In good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Students are not eligible for the TRIO SSS Squad Leader position if you are a Resident Assistant.  Time constraints and job responsibilities of an RA coincide with working as a Squad Leader in the TRIO SSS office. 
  • Orientation Leaders may be given job preference
  • Able to work a maximum of 10  hours/week (dependent on virtual and in-person allowance), office coverage until 6pm on some nights 
  • Willing to send and receive text messages from mentees
  • Available for all TRIO Squad Training

    • TRIO SSS Squad Leader Position Overview:

    In this unique leadership opportunity TRIO SSS Squad Leaders  assist new students' transition into life as a student here at Fitchburg State.  Squad members are assigned a caseload of mentees and are expected to take initiative to meet the needs of their mentees.   Though the work hours of a TRIO SSS Squad Leaders are busy, it is a rewarding position and Squad Leaders will leave with much to add to their resumes.  Squad Leaders will be expected to:

  • Support mentees through one-on-one interactions
  • Answer mentee questions about life at Fitchburg State
  • Connect mentees to campus resources
  • Engaging mentees throughout Pre-Semester Orientation 
  • Connect mentees to other TRIO SSS students through group activities and events
  • Help mentees reflect on their progress throughout the semester
  • Advise TRIO SSS students on office processes including Advising/Registration methods. 
  • Monitor their mentees' involvement in the program
  • Position Responsibilities and Requirements
  • Attend the TRIO SSS Squad Leader Training and participate in the TRIO SSS Pre-Semester Orientation Program
  • Participate in Mental Health First Aid Training and QPR (Suicide Awareness Training) 
  • Participate weekly staff meetings, one-on-one or as a whole team
  • Cover office until 6 pm on some nights
  • Assist mentees in becoming familiar with campus resources
  • Assist in maintaining TRIO SSS social media to keep mentees informed of upcoming events 
  • Maintain regular correspondence with mentees
  • Update professional staff of any student concerns 
  • Keep a record of your mentees' participation in the mentoring program
  • Hold regularly scheduled office hours 
  • Work as a team to plan and host social and academic programs 
  • Supervise and lead one or more workshops
  • Assume other appropriate responsibilities as assigned by TRIO SSS professional staff

    Shift Information:  This is a student only posting. Shift will vary based on student schedules and the pay is $15 per hour.
