Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Front End Application Developer for the Instructional Application Development Team in the School of Arts and Science IT Group. We are looking for a candidate that has experience in creating UI/UX design documents and working with customers in gathering requirements for various projects. The Application Developer will be part of a talented software development team that works on mission critical cutting-edge online education and instructional technology applications. The Application Developer will assist in the design and building of the front-end architecture for all SAS systems.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Responsible for estimating resources, skill requirements, time requirements, identifying tools and technologies and participating in proof of concepts during initial phases of the projects.
  • Analyzes high level system specifications, business requirements and/or use cases. Converts information into the appropriate level specifications and system design plan for the development team. This includes working with both the development team as well customer/stakeholders to gather requirements and discuss priorities.
  • Uses comprehensive application knowledge and or technical knowledge to provide guidance and technical leadership to help develop a cohesive front end architecture, and ensure designs are in compliance with specifications. Support continuous improvement by investigating alternatives and technologies and presenting these for architectural review.
  • Recognizes and escalates quality, deadline or deliverable issues within own work environment to team leads and/or management. Perform enhancements to meet changing data requirements, usability, interfaces and future maintainability of software.
  • Drive initiatives to adopt new processes and standards, and contribute in all phases of the development lifecycle of the project as well as write well designed, testable and efficient code.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of front-end application development experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Hands-on knowledge developing SPA using frameworks like Angular 2+, Angular material design, React, Svelte or other similar frameworks, jQuery, NodeJS, Grunt as well as strong knowledge in html,css,javascript etc.
  • Must have experience with design software such as XD, photoshop and illustrator
  • Hands-on experience in responsive design for mobile applications
  • Must be able to provide hands on software development experience as well as working experience in java development.
  • Knowledge of Relational Databases, SQL and ORM technologies (JPA2, Hibernate).
  • Familiarity with Version Controlling system such as GIT/SVN
  • Hand-on experience using MVC and Restful application architecture.
  • Experience developing web applications using at least one popular web framework (GWT, Spring MVC etc.) as well as experience with test driven development.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Demonstrate an ability to help make recommendations and decisions on front end. architecture for various applications.
  • Be highly motivated, team-oriented, flexible, organized, detail-oriented, capable of on-the-job learning, and focused on completing projects in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with multiple constituencies, juggle multiple projects and perform on multiple teams, while providing exceptional customer service is required.
  • Ability to effectively articulate technical concepts, both verbally and in writing, to people in non-technical positions.
Equipment Utilized
  • The Application Developer will be provided with a high end workstation and 2 monitors. The software required for development work as well as a number of robust testing platforms will be provided as needed and will be purchase by the center as needed.
