Summary:

Barry University is currently accepting applications for an Office Assistant at the Podiatric Clinic at Mercy Hospital.

The Front Desk Office Assistant is responsible for assisting in the management of a very busy specialty clinic with phone calls, faxes, scheduling of appointments, verifying insurances, obtaining authorizations, input of patient information and checking out patients once their visit ends.

Essential Functions:

Registration and discharge of patients:

  • Check in and check patients daily:
  • Scheduling in-office appointments.
  • Scheduling diagnostic procedures
  • Confirming patient appointments.
  • Answering phone calls and responding to patient requests.
  • Data entry of patient demographics, insurance information and authorizations.
  • Verifying patient insurance.
  • Obtaining authorizations for office visits in a timely manner.
  • Collecting copayments and outstanding balances

Performs other clerical functions in support of the clinic by:

  • Performs other clerical functions in support of the clinic by:
  • Checking and sorting taxes received from previous day. Preparing patient charts according to established protocol.
  • Filing all charts and paperwork in an efficient manner.
  • Closing the office at the end of the day.
  • Turn off x-ray machine
  • Lock the file room 
  • Dispose of biohazardous waste
  • Lock supply cabinets
  • Printing Superbill encounters daily
  • Cleaning and preparing rooms for the following day.    
  • Performs other clinic duties as assigned.

Perform other clinic duties as assigned.


Requirements:

  • A High school diploma is required.  

  • 1-3 years of experience in a medical- office environment. Medical office/ front desk experience may substitute for vocational or technical training.

  • Bilingual, English-Spanish is required

  • Excellent customer service skills.
