The Freelance Content Writer will produce written content on a per-project basis, covering a variety of topics and formats. Assignments may include (but are not limited to) institutional news, SEO-driven stories, Q&As, listicles, magazine features, website copy, and other collateral copy for the College, as well as ghostwritten pieces for faculty and other thought leaders.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Research and write content as directed by the Editorial Director in accordance with project briefs, and within prescribed editorial and formatting guidelines.
  • Independently contact and manage communication with assigned faculty/staff for interviews and/or follow-up questions.
  • For ghostwritten stories, interview, collaborate with, and write in the tone and voice of Babson College faculty and staff.
  • Revise work based on editorial feedback, as directed by content strategy staff and stakeholders.
  • Communicate with the Editorial Director about assignment-related expectations, progress, and challenges in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to all assignment deadlines and submit completed works via the requisite channels.
  • Publish approved stories on Babson properties and/or through a third-party CMS, as necessary.
  • Monitor and log time spent on each assignment. 
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as required.

WHAT EDUCATION AND SKILLS YOU WILL NEED

Bachelor’s Degree

  • At least five years of writing experience, with background in journalism and/or higher education preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with mastery of Associated Press style, and examples of writing in various forms and voices.
  • Detail oriented to ensure accuracy of work, and highly organized to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Basic understanding of and incorporating SEO into written assignments.
  • Must have strong computer skills, with the ability to handle content management systems, including WordPress, a plus.
  • Envisions and proposes new methods to perform tasks that support ET&A; takes thoughtful risks; and accepts new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results.
  • Anticipates and embraces change; demonstrates willingness to achieve, acquire, and utilize new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions.
