Position Summary

The Central Michigan University College of Medicine (CMED) is seeking two highly qualified faculty members with expertise and teaching experience in areas of: 1) behavioral science, and 2) biochemistry and/or pathophysiology. Successful candidates will join our Foundation Science Department and participate in the delivery of an innovative and integrated medical school curriculum. CMED faculty work as part of an interdisciplinary team of basic sciences and clinical faculty and collectively assume the role of ongoing development, review and revision of the curriculum. Candidates must therefore be capable of assuming a key educational role, working with other faculty in delivering a cross-disciplinary and inquiry-based medical school curriculum that includes case-based and team-based learning. Assistant, Associate or Professor rank will be determined based on the candidates’ credentials.

While these are predominantly teaching positions, the college provides opportunity for administrative duties and scholarly research. Our teaching faculty engage in research in their areas of basic science expertise and collaborate in medical education research. The college recognizes scholarly activity including: the advancement of new theories, practices and principles; the expansion and interpretation of existing ideas; the development of educational resources; more traditional forms of research; or the improvement and application of knowledge, especially in new settings. These are non tenure-track positions and start date in negotiable. Required Qualifications

Doctoral degree (PhD, MD/DO)
Experience in, and strong commitment to, innovative approaches to education and learning.
Ability or commitment to facilitate interactive learning in large and small group settings.
Strong collaborative and communication skills.
Candidates interested in advanced rank must have significant relevant medical school teaching experience of high quality in both large and small group settings as well as evidence of scholarship.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity.
Evidence of working in teams is essential.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching behavioral or social sciences, pathophysiology, biochemistry or closely related disciplines
Experience with cross-disciplinary teaching
Documented experience in patient-, case-, and/or problem-based medical education
Experience with, or a strong knowledge of, pedagogical approaches such as team-based learning
All areas of scholarly activity will be considered, but preference will be given for scholarly activity and experience related to medical education research

The CMU College of Medicine welcomed its inaugural class in the summer of 2013. The innovative medical school curriculum is designed to prepare students for practice in mid- to northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula, with particular attention to primary care needs in the region.
