- Job Description Trees For Houston is currently seeking a Forestry Manager to lead and execute our tree farm and tree distribution efforts. Duties of Forestry Manager include providing organizational support, strategic planning of tree farm/project operations to the Projects Team. Reports to: Projects Director Classification: Full time, permanent; non-exempt Salary Scale: Compensation based on experience Our History Founded in 1983, Trees For Houston initially focused our early efforts on planting street trees in the heart of Houston. Now celebrating our 38th anniversary, with over half a million trees planted, our organization has evolved into one that grows, plants and maintains thousands of trees across the greater Houston region. Our Purpose In addition to street tree planting, our reach now includes a new wide variety of planting projects ranging from esplanades and trails to parks and schools. Our constituency is as diverse and dynamic as the city of Houston itself. By planting trees wherever they may benefit the public, we can ensure a far reaching impact throughout our region for generations to come. Much like the trees that we plant, Trees For Houston’s roots are deep, firmly established and continually growing. Essential Functions: -Responsible for maintenance and operations of tree farm -Strategic planning of expansion of tree grow out program -Manage tree farm operations and oversee tree inventory -Works effectively and provides input in program and project design -Create innovative systems to reduce time and cost of field operations, maintenance, labor efficiencies and facilitate cost comparisons (ie. trees, equipment, materials, labor) -Work closely with Projects Director and Projects & Volunteer Coordinator to execute and plan various tree projects -Provide collaborative feedback in project planning -Prepare project bids and assist with proposals -Seek opportunities for new projects, tree sales, and consulting -Coordinate and direct volunteers at Trees For Houston events. Collaborate with Projects Team to identify volunteer opportunities for planting projects and related activities -Manage and lead field team and schedules on daily tasks or projects -Project facilitation will range from street tree plantings to beautification, reforestation and large scale tree distributions -Resilient problem solving and ability to make quick decisions based on analysis, ambiguous information and context -Facilitate hiring additional labor for necessary projects, help create and monitor budgets as well as day-to-day tasks and project planning -Create maintenance schedules for tree farm and previously planted sites -Work in variable weather conditions and under physically demanding circumstances
- Qualifications
- Minimum Requirements: -Bachelor’s degree or 3 years of experience in related field. -Demonstrated leadership qualities that allow one to provide effective guidance to others, coach others in effective decision making and facilitate meetings. -Able to build relationships and credibility and provide staff support to management and higher levels of professionals, as needed. -Valid driver's license and good driving record. -Excellent written, computer, and verbal communication skills, ability to facilitate meetings and presentations. -Strong collaborative skills and team oriented -Ability to encourage, motivate, and build effective teams, creating mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members and volunteers -Excellent oral and written communication skills -Ability and willingness to work flexible schedules, including weekends and other events as required
