Job Description


Mountain Empire Community College is a comprehensive two-year college serving residents of Lee, Scott, Wise, and Dickenson counties, and the City of Norton. MECC is one of twenty-three colleges in the Virginia Community College System and operates under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Local Advisory Board. The College is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the local jurisdictions.
The Red Fox Grill is under new management and has as its mission to provide food services for students, faculty, and staff in a clean, sanitary, and orderly manner at affordable prices through exceptional customer service. Grill employees are responsible for assisting in the grill area with the daily food preparation, cash handling, and overall appearance of the grill area. Positive interaction with students, faculty, staff, and other customers is one of the many benefits offered to our grill employees.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required to be successful in the position:
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of food service and nutritional guidelines and best practices.
  • Able to safely use kitchen and cleaning equipment and supplies.
  • Knowledge of health and sanitation regulations.
  • Ability to adhere to safety guidelines.

Minimum required qualifications:
  • High school degree or equivalent required.
  • Demonstrated experience in a food service program.
  • Current certification as a ServSafe Food Handler or has the ability to achieve certification within 3 months of hire.
Additional Considerations
Current certification as a ServSafe Manager.
