Job Description

The Fleet Specialist I will maintain the Texas A&M Forest Service (TAMFS) fleet vehicles assigned to their shop, assure the safety of all personnel by proper maintenance of all fleet vehicles, maintain 24 hour availability by means of a cell phone, pager or other electronic device and remain competent and current in all fleet equipment training updates. Region 4 consists of offices in Cleveland, Conroe, Houston and Huntsville.

Responsibilities:

-Performs vehicle and equipment operations in the shop's assigned areas. Serves a variety of gasoline and diesel engine vehicle and other equipment. Performs safety inspections and conducts emergency field repairs often in adverse conditions in the field. Regularly orders parts and supplies to ensure adequate inventory is on hand. Responsible for developing annual maintenance schedule for entire fleet in assigned area and disseminating to field offices.

-Manage vehicle log book, vehicle and equipment maintenance reporting and tracking, including computer reporting of individual vehicle expenses. Maintain a safe shop by ensuring cleanliness and all accident-prevention recommendations have been implemented. Ensure that PPE is worn while conducting duties. Complete all mandatory training in a timely manner. Manages and accounts for all TAMFS credit cards in accordance with applicable laws, policy rules, procedures and guidelines.

-Assist and supports other TAMFS programs and activities as needed.

-Requires working long hours with minimal rest and in primitive conditions. Will be required to work weekend and after-hours when fire activity dictates. Required to carry cell phone 24/7 when fire activity dictates.

-Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Required Education: High school diploma or GED

Preferred Education: Two (2) year mechanic related technical degree or graduation from an ASE certified program.

Required Experience: Two (2) or more years experience in vehicle maintenance and repair

Preferred Experience: Experience in equipment maintenance comparable to TAMFS fleet, to include JD and Cat dozers.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Required Knowledge: Hand and shop tools used in vehicle maintenance. Computer and diagnostic tool competency.

Required Skills: Good organization.

Preferred Skills: Skilled in metal fabrication (burning and welding)

Required Abilities: Multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

 

Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:

-Required: Valid Texas Driver's license. Class A CDL or ability to obtain one

-Preferred: Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified
