About UNC Medical Center & UNC Hospitals’ Hillsborough Campus:
UNC Medical Center is a 905-bed, tertiary/quaternary-care facility comprising NC Memorial Hospital (adult med/surg), NC Children’s Hospital, NC Women’s Hospital, NC Neurosciences Hospital, and NC Cancer Hospital. In spring 2024, a state-of-the-art Surgical Tower will open on the same campus, expanding the number of surgical observation, step-down, and ICU-rated beds at our facility by 56%. UNC Hospitals Hillsborough Campus, located approximately 20 minutes away from UNC Medical Center by car, has an additional 163 med/surg beds, including dedicated acute inpatient rehabilitation floors and a small, open ICU. UNC Hillsborough is considered part of UNC Medical Center.
Ambulatory sessions take place exclusively in the ID Clinic at UNC Eastowne Medical Office Building, a 6-story facility that opened in April 2021. Located a short drive from UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, the building has laboratory, radiology, and infusion services co-located on site. The ID Clinic is home to a busy OPAT program as well as comprehensive adult HIV care services funded through the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program.
About the UNC Division of Infectious Diseases:
The Division is home to more than 60 clinical and research faculty, many of whom have joint appointments in UNC’s schools of pharmacy and public health. We have had an ACGME-accredited fellowship program since 1980, with a mission of training the next generation of clinicians, public health practitioners, and investigators in the field. Although most of the Division’s research activities center around HIV treatment and prevention, we also have a highly esteemed tropical medicine and malariology group and global experts in coronavirus research, infection prevention and hospital epidemiology, and sexually transmitted infections.
About Our Area:
Chapel Hill is a quintessential college town located in central North Carolina, roughly equidistant from Durham, a historic heart of Black culture in the state, and Raleigh, the state capital. These three cities constitute the Triangle, a rapidly growing area of the US with excellent public and private grade schools, a vibrant cultural and arts community, world-class higher education, a highly rated international airport with regular flights to Canada and Europe, and both mountains and beaches within several hours’ drive. The Research Triangle Park (RTP), located between Durham and Raleigh, has long been a draw for biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and computer science companies which benefit from access to young, highly trained graduates from area universities. The Triangle area is a great place to live and work!
