Position Summary Information


Job Description Summary
In support of the Student Affairs Learning Outcomes, the Wellness and Recreation team manages multiple fitness and recreation facilities and coordinates a variety of on- and off-campus recreation and wellness education programming. Alongside professional staff and in collaboration with other team members, the Fitness Education Instructor provides personalized support to help students acquire a baseline understanding of the equipment available at fitness centers at Chapman University. Additionally, the Fitness Education Instructor is responsible for teaching proper form for participants eager to expand their equipment use. All Fitness Education Instructors are members of the Department of Student Engagement and the Division of Student Affairs.

  • Responsible for providing standardized fitness education practices including proper form techniques, reaching SMART goals related to fitness and wellness, as well as working with a diverse range of participants possessing a variety of fitness levels.
  • Manages three (3) forty-five (45) minute sessions per participant and records important lessons and takeaways related to each session.
  • Executes each session’s objective and goals tailored toward the participant’s fitness interests while adhering to the Fitness Education Program’s policies and procedures.
  • Supports the Department of Wellness and Recreation by providing positive leadership in the Fitness Education Program and creates and inclusive learning environment for participants new to the world of health and wellness.

Required
  • All Fitness Education Instructors are required to have or complete a current National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) or International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA) certification. If an applicant is not already certified, certification will be coordinated by the Department of Student Engagement upon employment.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certified through the end of the academic year. If an applicant is not already certified, certification will be coordinated by the Department of Student Engagement upon employment.
  • At least 1 year of experience working in a fitness training/education capacity to effectively teach participants who rarely visit fitness and recreation centers.
