- We are seeking applicants for Graduate Research Assistantships (M.S.) at the School of Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Aquatic Sciences at Auburn University. We are hiring students for two separate projects. The first project will involve tagging-based estimation of mortality rates of Greater Amberjack across the northern Gulf of Mexico. The second project will be using telemetry and conventional tagging approaches to estimate the impacts of catch-and-release angling on Largemouth and Alabama Bass in mainstem reservoirs of the Coosa River in Alabama. The projects will involve a mix of field work and computer modeling to answer research questions. The students will interact regularly with state agency personnel, collaborators from other universities, and the angling public. Graduate students will have access to outstanding laboratory and field facilities at Auburn University. Our staff and students travel widely for professional activities and maintain a team approach to research. The students will be expected to conduct a thesis research project and complete required course work. The students will receive a stipend of $18,000/yr, waiver of both in-state and out-of-state tuition, and any required technical help. In addition, funds will cover research costs and travel to scientific meetings. The chosen applicants will be expected to begin research in the fall of 2021 and coursework in January 2022.
