FULL-TIME/PERMANENT FISH & WILDLIFE BIOLOGIST 3 SCOTCH CREEK WILDLIFE AREA MANAGER WDFW Wildlife Program – Lands Division Okanogan, Washington Become part of a dynamic and diverse team that is invested in making a difference in the conservation of Washington State’s threatened and endangered populations. As the Scotch Creek Wildlife Area Manager, you will protect and restore ecological systems and preserve the ecological integrity of critical habitats on our state-owned and managed wildlife areas. This is a dynamic role in which you will enhance critical habitats and work to recover threatened and endangered fish and wildlife populations to healthy, self-sustaining levels. Our Scotch Creek Wildlife Area Manager, *Sets wildlife area management priorities consistent with our mission, strategic plan, wildlife area management plan and to meet Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) mitigation objectives. *Develops and manages a significant biennial budget to successfully implement the wildlife area plan. *Recommends capital budget projects and seeks to find new funding through grant opportunities and partnerships. *Responsible for procurement and approval of goods and services vital for the continued management of the wildlife area and is the primary contact with agency budget and contracts staff. *In coordination with the lands operations manager, negotiates agreements between private and public entities surrounding land management issues and coordinated meetings between parties to solve critical land management issues. *Serves of the primary public relations contact for the Scotch Creek Wildlife Area and as the lead WDFW representative at various local meetings. Conducts interpretive and educational events and visits school districts, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and civic organizations to discuss area management and topics of interests relating to the wildlife area. *Manages and is responsible for the wildlife area inventory which includes trucks, tractors, implements, ATVs/ORVs, electronics, etc. *Develops, implements, and administers grazing permits and agricultural leases across the wildlife area and is the primary contact for those agreement holders. *Develops work plans and budgets for potential habitat restoration projects on the wildlife area. *Supervises and assists with maintenance of all buildings, wells, and infrastructures on the wildlife area. *Supervises and mentors technical and professional level staff to support an effective, motivated team. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work Setting, including hazards: Office and field work, field work requires working in all terrains and weather conditions. Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. This position may work weekend and/or extended hours depending on wildlife area priorities, projects, and volunteer needs. Travel Requirements: Occasional overnight travel required. Frequent travel to remote wildlife areas throughout Okanogan County. Tools and Equipment: Laptop, office equipment, farm equipment/implements, ATVs, trucks, and various hand and power tools such as sprayers and chainsaws. Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: *A Bachelor's degree in natural resource science, environmental science, wildlife management or fisheries. AND *Three (3) years of professional experience in fish management or fish research, wildlife management or wildlife research, or habitat management or habitat research. OR *Two (2) years as a Fish & Wildlife Biologist 2. Please note: *A Master’s degree in the applicable science will substitute one (1) year of the required experience. *A Ph.D. in the applicable science may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience. *Professional equivalent experience may substitute, year for year, for the education requirement. Certifications/Licenses: *Valid Driver’s License. *Ability to obtain a WA Pesticide applicators license within the first 6 months of employment. *Ability to obtain NWCG PM-310-1 Red Card. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: *Familiarity with shrubsteppe ecosystems plus biology and life history of the Columbian Sharp-tailed Grouse. *Demonstrated ability to supervise and manage budgets. *Skilled writing background including grant writing experience. *Accustomed using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.). Knowledge of: *Ecosystem processes and process-centered restoration and management. *Land management principles and disciplines (e.g. – agricultural practices, range management, forest management, landscape ecology, fire ecology, integrated pest management, botany, flora/fauna identification & survey techniques and cultural resources awareness). *ArcGIS software and experience using various GPS devices.
