Position Details


General Statement
Fiscal Shared Services (FSS) provides accounting support across the Bozeman campus.
FSS teams perform a wide variety of business processes such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial management and reporting, and analysis. The teams also collaborate closely with central offices across campus to ensure the appropriate use of MSU funds.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a team of accounting analysts, sustaining an effective, high-performance team that provides excellent customer service to client departments.
  • Ensure the smooth and efficient flow of work through the team and clear communications with client units, providing accurate services in a highly responsive manner.
  • Ensure accounting is compliant with state and federal rules, generally accepted accounting principles, governmental accounting, and financial reporting standards.
  • Research and make independent judgments and interpretations on policy and compliance questions.
  • Ensure the quality of the team’s work: auditing, reviewing, and approving reports, corrections, invoices, payments, and other transactions as needed.
  • Support the team in providing client services, assisting with client questions, communications, transactions, reports, policy interpretations, etc. as needed.
  • Develop and lead training sessions for staff in the client user groups on accounting procedures. Provide direct, one-on-one support and training for new hires throughout the client user groups with regard to accounting procedures.
  • Develop and maintain thorough documentation of procedures for the team.
  • Collaborate closely with University Business Services Accounts Payable and Accounting, the University Budget Office and the Office of Sponsored Programs on procedures and deadlines.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of client units sufficient to understand goals and provide responsive, intuitive service.
  • Directly provide financial services for supported client units including creating new financial structures, providing monthly financial reporting, running financial analyses.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field, or, an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
  • Progressively responsible experience in accounting or fiscal management.
  • Experience performing financial reporting and analysis utilizing computerized accounting system, spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
  • Demonstrated success in supervising staff utilizing strong leadership and management skills.

    • Analytical skills to identify and assess potential opportunities to enhance the operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness of an organization.
