ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Department of Surgery has a large workforce of over 200 employees spread across eight divisions, all committed to achieving excellence in clinical care, education, and research. Over the past two years, the department has witnessed substantial growth and remains dedicated to recruiting and enhancing its programs. It comprises a diverse and highly skilled team of surgeons, each an expert in their specialized area. The department actively participates in both clinical and fundamental scientific research, contributing to the development of groundbreaking surgical techniques and treatment methods.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position has primary responsibility for all financial transactions in the Department of Surgery including but not limited to: A/P, A/R, variance /budget analysis, requisition & PO processing, P-Card reconciliation, travel reimbursements, FAST transactions, and reimbursements on the State, UMSA/USFTGP, Research, and Foundation accounts.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Process monthly variance analyses to ascertain position to budget variances and root cause analysis for any variance; Assist with compilation of reports and data needed during the annual budget cycle; Collaborate with supervisor and department leaders to develop and maintain standardized reports that reflect operational performance by mission area; run ad-hoc reports and analysis as needed.
Process requisitions and purchase orders for all items needed to support the business, clinical, and research functions in the Department.
Process all travel and reimbursement requests in accordance with established policies for all applicable funding sources (State, Foundation, Research, and  UMSA/USFTGP) in appropriate systems. Scrutinize requests for compliance and obtain appropriate approvals for all spending.
Assist with Research financials to include monitoring appropriate spending ensuring pay distributions are accurate for funded. Reconcile clinical contract funding.
Other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or other field directly related to the position's specific responsibilities and two years of fiscal related work experience; or a Bachelor's degree in no specific required field and two years of fiscal related work experience; or four years fiscal related work experience.
PREFERRED:
Experience with CODA, COGNOS, BudgetPlus, and FAST platforms as well as building financial reports preferred.  Two to six years fiscal related work experience.
SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:
Thorough understanding of general accounting, strong organizational skills and ability to develop and maintain an organized structure.
