The First-Year Student Experience and Leadership Coordinator will work to serve incoming students to the University of Pittsburgh through work programming and initiatives in the offices of New Student Programs and Residence Life. This position will work to welcome new students through implementation and execution of Panther Connect summer programs, assistance with Welcome Week programming, and assessment and benchmarking of these major events. The role will also serve students as they matriculate and live on-campus through work in Residence Life. As an adviser to the National Residence Hall Honorary and to the Resident Student Association, this position also promotes residential leadership opportunities for new students.

Job Summary

Assists in the organization and development of student activities and coordination of special events. Advises student organizations and students on programs and services. Attends student-sponsored social events, monitors organizations' financials and performs reconciliations, and ensures compliance with all University policies. Publicizes student events, assists in developing promotional materials, and registers and monitors new student organizations and requests.


Essential Functions 

      A commitment to student interaction and mentoring, a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, coordination of the summer Panther Connect new student on-boarding experience, core member of the University Welcome Week Team, principle advisor to both the National Residence Hall Honorary and the Resident Student Association, c oordination of Hall Council Elections, assist in assessment and data collection from residential student population, advisory support and training for professional staff members who serve as Hall Council Advisers, l eadership and supervision of Panther Connect Leaders, e ffectively communicate in both in one on one and group settings, m embership on a departmental and/or university strategic team/committee, and develop and participate in departmental level leadership opportunities.


Physical Effort 

Light physical effort is required. May be required to stand/move for several hours at a time.

Additional details about Required Licensure/Certification A Master’s degree in Higher Education or Student Personnel or comparable area of study is preferred. Experience with supervision and/or advising is preferred. Experience working with diverse student populations is imperative. Successful candidates must be acutely aware of student and team development issues to be effective in this role.
Work Schedule Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm
Work Arrangement Hybrid: Combination of On-Campus and Remote work as determined by the department.
Hiring Range $43,000.00
