First Mate on F.G. Walton Smith

Location: Miami, FLORIDA

This Crew Mate position will be the First Mate, or second in command, on the research vessel F.G. Walton Smith. The First Mate is a U.S. Coast Guard licensed crew member in charge of vessel’s deck department. The First Mate is responsible to the Captain for the safety and security of the ship. Responsibilities include the crew's welfare and training in areas such as safety, firefighting, search and rescue. Carries out orders as directed by Captain and reports directly to the Captain.

Education Requirements:
• Associates Degree preferred, High School diploma or equivalent required.

Work Experience Requirements:
• Minimum one year experience of sea time as AB and standing navigational watches

Required Certifications, Experience and Training:
• U.S. Coast Guard license of 500 tons or greater; Master.
• Advanced Fire Fighting.
• PADI Diver.
• Radar/ARPA.
• First Aid/CPR/AED.
• Valid/current driver’s license.
