The Fire Inspector II, is responsible for completing fire and life safety inspections and assisting EHS in ensuring a safe environment by identifying unsafe conditions.  Completes basic plan reviews, construction inspections, and code compliance reviews. What you need to know

Pay range: $17.55 - $22.56/hour

Cover Letter/Resume’: A cover letter and resume’ are strongly recommended.

This position may require moderate exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, dirt, fumes, smoke, loud noises and chemical substances. This position may require inspections and meetings associated with construction and visits to construction sites at various phases of construction, climbing stairs, ladders

Required Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • One year of work experience in safety and health field, such as: industrial hygiene, fire safety, occupational safety or occupational health.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid State of Texas driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment
  • Fire Inspector Certification (ICC, NFPA, TCFP, IFSAC, or equivalent) or the ability to acquire a Fire Inspector I Certification (ICC, NFPA, TCFP, IFSAC, or equivalent) within 6 months
  • Failure to obtain license and certifications may result in termination

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • This position must be capable of effectively communicating with contractors, project managers, architects, and others similar personnel, both orally and in written form
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Experience conducting plan review, knowledge of fire and life safety systems
  • Work experience conducting fire and life safety inspections in a university setting

Preferred Licenses and Certifications:

  • Plan Review, Certified Fire Inspector

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to apply NFPA, IBC, and IFC codes and standards to construction projects
  • Ability to interpret fire codes in order to solve code issues

Responsibilities:

  • FLS Construction Plan Review Duty Title - Utilize training and experience to complete basic plan reviews, construction inspections, and code compliance reviews. Conduct/assist in conducting fire and life safety system acceptance testing. Will be required to drive a University or other motor vehicle to and from campus locations.
  • Attend Meetings - Attend various design meeting to represent EHS and the AHJ during various design, project meetings, etc.
  • Fire Extinguisher Inspections - Conduct monthly and annual inspections of portable fire extinguishers. Will be required to drive a University or other motor vehicle to and from campus locations. Performs other duties as assigned.
