The Center for Financial Wellness at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, (UTK) invites applications and nominations for our Financial Wellness Coach position. We are seeking candidates who can contribute in meaningful ways to enhancing the accessibility of higher education, fostering a diverse and inclusive academic environment, improving the recruitment and graduation of our students.

The Position:

This is an on-campus position with some hybrid/remote work schedule flexibility.

This position is part of a team within Enrollment Management Operations that provides a student-focused approach to quality service in order to provide exceptional, seamless service experience that supports student success and institutional goals of recruitment, retention, and graduation. A Financial Wellness Coach provides students with the knowledge and skills to effectively manage their finances, educate students on how to evaluate their financial decisions and collaborate with faculty, staff, and students across campus to in order to identify potential student needs and offer tailored solutions. This position will report to the Coordinator of Financial Wellness and Education and work with the Coordinator in developing and implementing a financial wellness strategy. This position is responsible for assisting with creating material, for providing outreach and education that engages the student population, and for promoting financial wellness across campus. Collect and verify all required data from participants throughout the program and assist Coordinator in program reports and preparation. Finally, the position is cross trained to answer questions of general breadth and depth related to the offices One Stop Student Services, Undergraduate Admissions, University Registrar, Financial Aid and Scholarships, and University Bursar and facilitate transactions that provide support to students, parents/families, and other campus community members.

 



Qualifications

 

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree must be obtained by the date of hire; current students nearing graduation are encouraged to apply.

• 1 or more years of experience in working with individuals from diverse economic backgrounds in one or more the following areas: coaching, counseling, mentoring, goal setting, budgeting, debt repayment, utilization of quality financial services, or general money management; and demonstrable experience using Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Drive.

• 2 years of student employment, student volunteer work or internship experience will be considered.

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

• 1 or more years of experience in financial coaching and/or related financial field; AND demonstrated experience with collecting, reviewing, and reporting on program participation and satisfaction.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Highly motivated self-starter, with strong customer service, communication, and presentation skills.

• Ability to work with students in both a one-on-one setting and in a group setting.

• Demonstrates ability to interact affectively and confidently with individuals at all social and economic levels.

• Ability to work independently and as a productive team member.

• Ability to remain flexible, adaptive, and positive in a constantly changing environment.

• Ability to use relevant technology and a willingness to learn new skills and techniques in order to promote successful student engagement and outcomes.

• Ability to identify internal weaknesses, to identify solutions and to adapt coaching methods and tools in order to create more effective programs and student outcomes.

• Ability to sense when students are overwhelmed and the skill to break major objectives in manageable steps.

• The skill to engage/motivate/encourage students and help them resolve financial challenges and accomplish goals.

• Creative, practical, and strategic problem-solving skills.

 

The Division

The Enrollment Management (EM) division comprises more than 190 full-time staff who serve our students through the following departments and functions: Undergraduate Admissions, International Recruitment, Transfer Center, One Stop Student Services, Financial Aid and Scholarships, the Center for Financial Wellness, University Registrar, Pre-college Research Excellence Programs, EM Research & Analytics, EM Communications, and EM Operations.
