Established in 1957, the department of Nuclear Engineering in the Tickle College of Engineering was the first and continues to be one of the most prestigious in the United States. Our graduate program is consistently ranked as one of the top in the nation by U.S. News and World Report.

Our Nuclear Engineering department is seeking a Financial Specialist to assist with the planning, management, and coordination of fiscal and human resources operations of the Nuclear Engineering Department. This position will work closely with faculty to assist with management of externally funded projects and influence decisions regarding appointments of student employees, research staff, budget modifications, and future proposal development. Consequently, the position can have major impact on the Nuclear Engineering Department's capacity for strategic planning, responsible budget management, and compliance with university and governmental agency policies and regulations. This role also maintains close working relationships with the Nuclear Engineering and INS department, Tickle College of Engineering, Office of Research, and Office of Sponsored Programs.

This position will analyze and evaluate general ledgers, revenues, expenditures, and ensure compliance with policy and regulation. The position will calculate and track scholarship and fellowship entries and departmental tuition waivers, consult faculty, staff, and students on financial policies, and assist with budget projections and modifications. In addition, this position will assist in overseeing HR transactions including pay funding changes and effort certification.

 



Qualifications

 

Minimum/Required Qualifications:

·       High school diploma with 5 years of accounting, business administration, and/or  HR Management Experience.

·       Knowledge of general accounting principles

·       Ability to perform a variety of complex accounting transactions, budget development & analysis

·       Ability to plan, organize, multi-task, and prioritize work assignments

·       Have sound interpersonal and communication skills

·       Ability to interpret governmental contracts

·       Working knowledge of Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications:

·       Associates with 4+ years of accounting and HR or business management experience

·       Bachelor's with 3-4 years of accounting  and HR or business management experience

·       Supervisory experience

·       Work history related to post-award management of grants and contracts

·       Working knowledge of IRIS/SAP, Cayuse, Banner, and Scholarship Manager

·       Experience in an academic environment.

·       Financial work history at a comprehensive research university
