Job Summary:

This position joins a team of fiscal and administrative support staff to provide support to NRI staff located across the state of Wisconsin. The NRI is a dynamic organization whose important work is supported by state, grant, program revenue, and gift funding. This position will play an important role in continuing to diversify funding to support the mission of the Institute.
The Financial Specialist works closely with other fiscal support staff within NRI, the Division of Extension's Office of Financial Services staff, and other UW staff (including Research and Sponsored Programs accountants, Division of Business Services staff, and Auxiliary Operations Analysis staff) to ensure the maintenance, reconciliation, and analysis of all accounts assigned.
The primary areas that this position will support is program revenue accounting, post award grant accounting, and development (gift funds) support. This position will also be asked to support some internal or grant related projects within the Institute.

Education:

Required
Associate's Degree
degree in accounting, business, or similar required
Preferred
Bachelor's Degree

Qualifications:

Required:
1. 2 or more years of relevant work experience
2. Knowledge and effective use of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and accounting principles and practices
3. Ability to communicate effectively using a variety of methods and technology
4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, including those associated with race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, socioeconomic status, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and other aspects of human diversity.
Preferred:
1. Knowledge of UW budgeting processes, regulations, and restrictions on various account types (such as program revenue, gift, GPR, federal grants, etc.)
2. Demonstrated skills with commercial software and UW programs such as MS Excel, MS Word, Smartsheet, WISER, SHOP UW+, Cost-Transfer Tool, and e-Reimbursement.
3. Interest in natural resources, conservation, agriculture, or other related fields.

Additional Information:

Starting salary is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
