Job Summary

Please note: This is a temporary position. The initial appointment period is a 20 month appointment ending on February 1, 2026 and is conditioned on satisfactory performance as determined by the Controller’s office. This appointment may be extended based on satisfactory performance and the needs of the Enterprise Resource Planning project. At the conclusion of the project, the position will end and your employment with RIT will be terminated.


Job Responsibilities

  • Perform various complex accounting and financial reporting functions related to endowment accounting. Ensure adherence to University policies, external regulations/compliance and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Prepare, calculate and post quarterly and annual income distributions to the endowment. The endowment unitization calculation includes unit market values, assignment of units, related reports, etc.  Calculation must be pristine and current at all times.
  • Reconcile investment fund manager statements, as received, to the University’s general ledger. Review accounts to identify exceptions and irregularities; determine effect of adjustments and recommend solutions to management.
  • Participate in internal and external reviews and audits:
    • Annual audit schedule preparation
    • Routine financial statement and supporting schedule development
    • Coordinate year-end investment confirmation process
    • Assist with completion of the annual Management Self-Assessment and Certification process
    • Ensure software applications, Dynamo, Cobalt and Fundriver, are current and up-to-date
    • Review Quarterly Investment Report provided by external consultant for errors and/or omissions, and report findings to the Director of Endowment and Treasury Operations.
  • Perform due diligence procedures for initial and ongoing monitoring and reporting for the University’s endowment fund managers including such as reading managers’ quarterly and audited financial reports, periodically contacting managers on a formal scheduled basis to perform due diligence, etc.
  • Produce internal and external endowment reports including donor fund market values, NTID gift reporting, and quarterly Advancement reporting ensuring consistency and accuracy.
  • Coordinate, record to the general ledger, and track capital calls/distributions to ensure compliance with legally binding agreements and University policies.
  • Prepare account requests for new endowed funds identifying purpose, administrator and restrictions. Update Fundriver with correct spending rule and identify the appropriate department, distribution project, functional expense category and object code.
  • Categorize IRS Schedule K-1 for all partnerships within Dynamo and coordinate with Tax Analyst to summarize and report activity including unrelated business taxable income and other required reporting. Coordinate with Controller’s staff regarding IRS (IRC) compliance and reporting requirements associated with the University’s investments (e.g., unrelated business income, certain foreign holdings, etc.).
  • Research and apply new financial accounting standards that affect the University’s investment portfolio, and how it is reported in the external financial statements.
  • Assist management in analyzing, implementing and testing investment accounting policy changes.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.
  • Participate in a minimum of 40 hours of training/professional development annually (or a pro rata amount based on standard working hours). Training must be applicable to the employee’s role current within the Controller’s Division with the intent of enhancing overall knowledge as well as the specific skills, whether functional or technical, required to perform successfully in the position.

Required Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • BS in Accounting or related business field 
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles required with seven to eight years of progressive experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience in accounting and financial reporting and analysis.
  • Experience with Oracle financial applications or another enterprise system and strong PC computer skills including MS Suite of tools

Skills:

Must possess competence in analyzing and reconciling complex financial accounts,

Project management skills and be knowledgeable about tax compliance matters.

Must demonstrate initiative and strong attention to details and possess the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks and to work independently.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to adapt and learn new software and accounting regulations  


Preferred Qualifications

MBA or MS in a related discipline with a professional certification (CPA, CMA, or CIA) preferred
Experience in higher education, including responsibilities for endowment administration, is strongly preferred.
