Position Summary

Plan, develop and coordinate the preparation of DCRI financial analyses and reports including, but not limited to, operational and capital budgets, financial statements, statistical reports, cost analyses and other financial information; perform complex and specialized assignments in assigned area of expertise; perform lead role in coordinating cross-functional projects.

Primary Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Plan, develop and coordinate the preparation of financial analyses and reports including, but not limited to, operational and capital budgets, financial statements, statistical reports, cost analyses and other financial information.
  • Maintain liaison with business unit leaders to advise units regarding financial position, accounts, budgets, budget requests and related financial matters.
  • Maintain liaison with IT to ensure data integrity, provide necessary data to populate financial systems for reporting, and troubleshoot inconsistencies.
  • Supervise, coordinate and participate in the preparation of various financial reports and analyses for senior leadership and other internal/external customers.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and management of financial systems, cost accounting systems and/or financial policies and procedures as appropriate.
  • Management of personnel, including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, performance management, workflow management, and vacation schedules.

Required Qualifications

Education/Training:  (refer to the Duke HR website for minimum qualifications required if applicable)

  • Work requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field.

Experience: (refer to the Duke HR website for minimum qualifications required if applicable)

  • Work requires a minimum of six years’ experience in financial management, accounting, or a field directly related to specialized area of assignment.
  • Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

Successful candidates will have:

  • A strong background or knowledge of data analytics as it pertains to financial reporting.
  • Strong accounting skills with attention to detail.
  • The ability to present and explain financial models to customers outside of the financial discipline.
    • This includes the ability to synthesize large data sets into visual reports that are meaningful and useful to operations for decision making purposes.
  • A natural curiosity with respect to financial trends, and variances to trends along with the investigative skills to determine the accuracy and appropriateness of the financial data.
  • The ability to design and prepare ad-hoc analyses timely and accurately, drawing relevant information from large data sets from multiple data sources.
  • The ability to bridge the gap between Finance and Operations - presenting financial findings and translating them into operational recommendations.
    • This will be accomplished through clear and concise written and oral communication skills, easily consumed across various functional areas.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (currently using Office 2016) – Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Access is a plus.
  • SAP experience is desired, however, proven ability to learn and navigate various ERP systems will satisfy this requirement.
  • Critical thinking and troubleshooting skills in order to drive continual progress.
  • Experience with the documentation of processes.
  • The ability to make recommendations with respect to process improvement.
  • The ability to successfully design and implement process improvement initiatives.
  • A strong background or knowledge of financial reporting systems, data warehouses, and data uploads and output.

Registration, Certification or Licensure: 

  • CPA or CPA equivalent is desirable.

Minimum Qualifications
Education

Work requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field. CPA is desirable.


Experience

Work requires a minimum of six years experience in financial OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE management, cost accounting or a field directly related to specialized area of assignment.
