Position Summary:

Upon admission, conducts patient interviews to obtain demographic, financial, and third-party payor information to determine source(s) of payment for services. Works with the self-pay patients in a proactive manner to identify potential benefits eligibility, and assists the patient to complete necessary application documents.

Status:      Full-Time

FLSA:        Non-Exempt

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Obtains and inputs patient demographic information into the patient database.
  • Screens patient for financial responsibility, taking into consideration all potential benefits eligibility, and assists with completing necessary applications to obtain further benefits.
  • Educates Medicaid patients on other plan options within the Medicaid program.
  • Conducts a verification of patient information process, including documenting identification, proof of residency, income, and third-party carriers.
  • Determines the proper pay classification of the patient.
  • Counsels patients about unpaid bills.
  • Creates patient folders for appropriate paperwork.
  • Adheres to internal controls established for the department.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Certification/Skills:

    N/A.

    Minimum Education:

    High School Diploma or equivalent; at least one year of college preferred.

    Minimum Experience:

    Four (4) years of related experience.   

    Physical Requirements:

    Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

    Security Sensitive:

    This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215

    Residency Requirement:

    Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
