UTHealth Houston Greens Multispecialty Clinic is hiring a Financial Counselor Coordinator to join their team of professional. The Financial Counselor Coordinator will be monitoring the work queues for the entire UT Physicians Practice Plan and oversee the work of 3 Financial Counselors. They will also be pulling reports out of EPIC.

Ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of excel and spreadsheets. The Financial Counselor Coordinator must have extensive knowledge of insurance verification, understands patient benefits, to include Medicare and Medicaid and is willing to assist patients obtain market place insurance plan or apply to Medicaid.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm

Position Summary:

Responsible for providing financial counseling and education to patients regarding their insurance benefits, co-pays, co-insurance amounts and any insurance limitations as well as the potential costs for surgery and other procedures. Ensures that patients have a reasonable expectations for their out of pocket costs vs. value.

 

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Coordinates workload for other community clinics that do not have a Financial Counselor and needs assistance to determine if a patient may need financial assistance.
  • Trains clinic staff and other financial counselors on the Financial Assistance Program.
  • Works as Liaison between revenue cycle team and clinical staff on the implementation of the Financial Assistance Program.
  • Reviews insurance verifications on all patients prior to office appointments and confirms system has been updated with current benefits information.
  • Communicates with patients prior to surgeries/procedures regarding financial responsibilities (co-pays, deductibles, etc.) and insurance benefits. Ensures patients are prepared and understand fees and payments they are expected to make during their treatment plan.
  • Obtains all relevant patient and insurance data and updates system to ensure all insurance and financial data is current at all times.
  • Meets with all new patients to review their insurance benefits. Presents alternative financing methods (Financing programs, Single Case agreements, etc.).
  • Counsels patients regarding their financial responsibilities; determines and negotiates payment arrangements.
  • Maintains strong relationships with patients despite difficult financial situations. Works with patients to the extent possible to come to an agreement on financial terms.
  • Coordinates all patient financial activities in a timely manner. Collects fees and deposits; generates receipts, posts payments in the system.
  • Effectively communicates with Physicians, Surgery Schedulers, Front Desk staff, Billing and other office staff regarding patients’ insurance and financial status. Works with other Billing staff to resolve patient financial issues.
  • Constantly reviews and analyzes patient accounts receivable and maintains at acceptable levels. Reviews patient financial reports data daily and performs analytical and follow-up activities with patients and coworkers as necessary.
  • Develops and maintains financial protocols.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Certification/Skills:

    Advanced working knowledge of standard Office Software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook is required. Experience working with medical billing systems and medical EMR systems is required. Must have advanced working knowledge of financial systems. 

     

    Minimum Education:

    Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Minimum Experience:

    Four years of related experience.  May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.

    Physical Requirements:

    Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

    Residency Requirement:

    Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
