The Nuclear Engineering Department in the Tickle College of Engineering located on the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) campus, is seeking a Financial Associate interested in working in a team environment supporting the accounting team. Reporting to the
Assistant Business Manager, the Financial Associate performs financial and administrative functions of the unit. This position represents the unit in a professional manner often working with individuals and organizations external to the university. This position will process fiscal transactions, prepare effort certification reports, validate deposits accuracy, assist faculty with allowable purchasing on sponsored projects, handle collections and records for audit/inspection, monitor record/file retention, provide back-up support for the front desk, and assist with department travel expenses.

 



Qualifications

 

Required Education and Experience:

 

• A high school diploma or GED with two years of experience in accounting

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of basic accounting principles.

• Excellent communication, customer service and organization skills.

• Ability to multi-task and work independently.

• Ability to prioritize a heavy work load.

• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

• Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks based on needs of others and with time-sensitive deadlines.

• Ability to work autonomously as well as within a team environment.

• Sound interpersonal and communication skills.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Associate’s degree in a field related to business, accounting, or a degree related to the position’s duties.

• Experience in an academic environment.

• Experience in planning and reconciling travel expenses

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of State and federal contract and grant financial requirements.

• Working knowledge of UT fiscal and HR policies and procedures.

• Knowledge of financial / personnel management applications such as SAP/IRIS.

• Knowledge of personnel maintenance processes incl. hiring, I-9 e-verification, and USCIS (visa) processes.
