Position Description:

The Financial Assistant III position is part of the Pre Award Team in the Clinical Trials Unit. This individual will coordinate the financial management of assigned clinical trials and work closely with faculty, affiliated hospitals, practice groups, and sponsors to ensure fiscal management and compliance with rules and regulations governing clinical research.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, review, negotiate, track, and process clinical research budgets and payment terms for industry, foundation, federal, and federal flow through clinical trials to ensure all impacted parties are aware and that their related costs are included in budgets, as determined by coverage analysis.
  • Review, understand, and apply regulations that govern clinical research, including governmental, UofL, and affiliated healthcare provider policies and procedures.
  • Advise faculty and staff on applicable regulations and policies as related to their clinical research.
  • Review clinical trial protocols, lab and imaging manuals, case report forms, consent forms, contracts, purchase agreements, letters of indemnification, FDA documents, CMS policies, and Coverage determinations to gain a complete understanding of the facilities, staff, equipment, and patients needed to successfully conduct a clinical trial.
  • Participate in planning meetings and advise faculty, staff, Division Chiefs & Department Chairs as to the financial and operational impact of clinical trials to decide to accept or reject a project.
  • Complete Coverage Analysis (CA) for submission to the IRB of record and the facilities involved in clinical trials as needed to develop a compliant billing plan.
  • Create a billing plan and maintain it to ensure compliance throughout the life of the project.
  • Prepare the appropriate language for cost, compensation, and subject injury for inclusion in the consent forms submitted to the IRB of record.
  • Communicate directly with study sponsor representatives to negotiate and finalize clinical trial budgets.
  • Update documents as needed due to amendments.
  • Submit clinical trial documents to affiliated healthcare providers and contracting offices.
  • Be the liaison with the sponsoring agency, healthcare providers, contracting office, and our faculty/staff throughout the life of the project to resolve any issues and address any questions that arise.
  • Attend training as required to stay abreast of new and emerging regulations.
Target Compensation Maximum:

$31.38

Target Compensation Minimum:

$20.92

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
