FINANCIAL ASSISTANT 2, Sociotechnical Systems Research Center (SSRC), to provide complex and diverse financial support as a member of SSRC’s administrative team.  Will perform financial activities for general, fund, and research accounts for faculty and their labs; process/approve purchases, review expenditures, process purchase orders and invoices, prepare journal vouchers, verify credit card charges, approve financial documents, and settle billing discrepancies with vendors; monitor/track account activity and expenditures for compliance with sponsor guidelines and approved budgets; reconcile account statements and salary expense reports; create and update financial forecasts; assist with the preparation of funding proposals; carry out monthly financial review and control process (FRC); assist with management of multiple consortia, including tracking payments received, generating invoices, and contacting members about renewals; assist with developing funding proposal budgets and other pre-award documents; maintain databases; process account closeouts; research, review, and resolve swept credit card charges; act as a resource for faculty/staff/students on financial transactions; and perform other duties as requested.  


Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  high school diploma or its equivalent; at least three years’ financial/accounting experience; strong accounting skills; meticulous attention to detail; proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including ability to work from existing templates and set up new sheets, manipulate formulas, and format for usability and readability; excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills; and sound judgment with confidential/classified information. PREFFERED:  bachelor’s degree; experience with Word, PowerPoint, and university accounting and purchasing systems; experience with sponsored research accounting and working knowledge of sponsored research budgets, including F&A rates, EB, and vacation; proficiency with database (e.g., QuickBase) and/or visualization software (e.g., Tableau) and MIT’s financial software (SAP, Cognos, Brio) and/or proposal submission system (Kuali Coeus).  Job #21269-5
