The Wireless Networking and Communications Group (WNCG) is an Organized Research Unit and interdisciplinary center for research and education with an emphasis on industrial relevance. The center is located within and works closely with The Chandra Family Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (Texas ECE), a top-ranked program and the largest department in the Cockrell School of Engineering.

WNCG is home to more than 200 graduate students and 28 faculty. Our mission is to create a collaborative environment that supports research and provides highly relevant education and opportunities. This position is eligible for a hybrid Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA) (on-campus and remote work). FWA arrangements are subject to manager approval and may shift due to changes in business needs.


Purpose

Provide financial support for the Wireless Networking and Communications Group, a large, high-functioning, multi-million-dollar research center. Coordinate support for complex center financial portfolio, including analysis, interpretation, and reporting.  


Responsibilities

  • Maintain all center account records, budgets, funds, and spend plans accurately and with intention. Implement effective strategies exercising strong accountability. Forecast expenditures and income; create projections. Plan based on need, policy, procedure, and precedent. Collaborate on all aspects of budgets, providing transparency for center needs. Serve as a resource to center team and various university counterparts.

  • Produce routine and timely center account reports that allow stakeholders to make informed decisions. Craft recommendations and provide coaching as needed, regularly applying solutions-oriented strategy. Serve as liaison between center faculty and university counterparts. Track and implement all aspects of center post-award activities, working closely with research administration and center team.

  • Execute costing for all center appointments and related funding. Process all center tuition documents and act as a point of contact for all tuition bill and supplemental funding questions.

  • Function as center resource on university funding policies and procedures. Ensure compliance and consistency with projects across center-related funding agencies. Perform center voucher auditing and document approval, acting as the first line of defense. Exercise patience, flexibility, and understanding when guiding colleagues on best practices. Manage center electronic office systems, including access, routing, and authorization.

  • Help process center expenditures, such as reimbursements and research costs. Provide backup on purchasing and business contracts. Help provide event support as needed.

  • Work with team to optimize center schedule and fundamental processes. Participate in regular team meetings and attend relevant training. Collaborate on annual center reports. Perform special projects as needed.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or related field.

  • Five years of relevant experience in university accounting, sponsored projects, business management, or other closely related field.

  • Demonstrated resiliency working within a diverse environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize job tasks in dynamic circumstances without sacrificing accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet multiple deadlines while working independently and/or as a team member.

  • Demonstrated ability of excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills.

  • Professional demeanor and regular, punctual attendance.

  • Solid knowledge of office productivity tools, such as Mac OSX and Microsoft Office.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.


Preferred Qualifications

  • More than required years of experience.

  • Previous experience sharing responsibilities and being a celebrated team member.

  • Previous experience in higher education, particularly in STEM or with a significant research operation.

  • Experience working with faculty and graduate students.

  • Experience working with a large, demanding clientele base.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new systems.

  • Positive comportment.


Salary Range

$60,000 + depending on qualifications


Working Conditions

  • May work around standard office conditions.

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
