Position Overview

Information Technology has one of the largest operating budgets in the non-academic sector of the University. Information Technology has seven functional areas that deal with departmental and campus-wide/enterprise technology services.  This position is part of the KU IT Finance team and involves working collaboratively with the Director of Finance and Planning (DFP) to perform financial analysis, budget preparation and tracking, and financial reporting.  Duties will include administering general use and revenue budget allocations, providing financial and budgetary support to the seven directors and the CIO, and creating financial projections to optimize financial resources to facilitate effective decision-making.

The position will work closely with the Procurement Services Team to ensure that technology contracts are established and renewed in a timely manner and the KU Shared Service Center Finance (SSC) to ensure financial transactions are processed timely with the correct funding. The position will also aid the DFP with developing internal financial policies and procedures to enhance existing financial business operations and efficiencies for Information Technology.

Job Description

70% Financial Management and Reporting

  • Responsible for creating and oversight of KU IT enterprise technology budgets for campus-wide use contracts, including the following areas:
    • Assist DFP with developing fiscal year budgets during the annual budget collection cycle.
    • Utilize OAC financial reporting system to manage base and revenue budgets throughout the fiscal year, including annual budget transfers.
    • Track year over year cost of technology contracts for current year budget projected spend and future year budget needs.
    • Review monthly financial reports to ensure proper funding has been used for transactions and make corrections to conform to the established budget.
  • Provide financial analysis and support to the DFP, CIO, Directors, and SSC management/staff.
  • Provide financial analysis, advice, and assistance on special projects as requested.
20% General Leadership
  • Serves as key liaison to Procurement Services staff to establish policies, procedures, and guidelines for technology contract renewals.
  • Plays a key role in assisting DFP with developing financial policies and procedures to enhance existing financial business operations and efficiencies for the KU IT.
  • Assists with development of financial reports utilizing OAC reporting system.
  • Represents KU IT on a variety of University budget and/or fee-related committees.
10% Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree -OR- High School Diploma and 2 years of related experience.
  • Two years of experience using accounting and automated systems or other related software.
  • Attention to detail and excellent written communication skills, as evidenced by application materials.

  • Bachelor's degree in business or a related field.
  • Previous experience with University of Kansas accounting and reporting systems.
  • Advanced accounting experience and skills, as evidenced by application materials.
  • Experience in process review with documented outcomes.
  • Knowledge of university and state rules & regulations regarding fiscal, procurement and accounts payable processes.
