Position Overview

The Financial Analyst Senior will be responsible for financial analysis and budget support, developing service rates, and creating processes for financial work flows and service offerings for KU Information Technology (KU IT).   This role works with significant autonomy and requires the ability to represent the unit to the public and oversee internal operations of the organization.


Job Description

40% - Accounting

Provide financial analysis and budget support.  Interprets financial policies and procedures for implementation, execution, and auditing purposes for KU IT.  Performs complex technical analysis and financial reporting for varied and complex sources of funding for KU IT.  Researches and prepares variance analysis with explanations to non-fiscal staff.  Initiates financial changes as directed to ensure accounting principles are followed.  Conducts various statistical analyses and modeling involving financial data.  Understanding of general accounting principles.  Distribute monthly reporting.

30% - Cost of Service & Rate Development

Developing rates for billable KU IT services.  Using KU’s service rate model to find direct and indirect costs and utilization to determine rates for KU IT services. Work with financial leadership across campus to understand impacts of changes of KU IT Service Catalog and its relation to revenue and cost sharing to develop rates.
25% - Business Analysis

Determines, implements, and evaluates business processes for KU IT.  Works between different KU IT units to define operational processes and responsibilities.  Research and prepares variance analysis with explanations to inform diverse audiences.  Documents decision points, responsibility, and workflow. 

5% - Other duties as assigned

Assist IT Associate Director of Financial Services with special projects to include bench marking, and ad hoc reports.


Position Requirements

  • This position will have a hybrid work arrangement. Incumbent will work remotely and on campus based on a set departmental schedule. 

  • Required Qualifications

    1. Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience OR High School diploma and 7 years of related experience.
    2. Three (3) years of experience with complex accounting environments.
    3. Three (3) years of Microsoft Excel experience.
    4. Three (3 ) years of experience with financial reporting and analysis.
    5. Excellent written communication skills as evident in application materials.


    Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of cost accounting experience or Higher Education class exposure to concepts in classwork.
  • Previous experience with University of Kansas accounting.
  • Excellent organizational and oral communication skills.
  • Customer service experience.
