Candidates hired for the position may work remotely within the United States (U.S.) or from one of our U.S. office locations. This does not include U.S. territories.

The responsibilities for the position include: 

  • Provide financial expertise/insights at monthly project review meetings for projects in assigned portfolio.
  • Support negotiations with major vendors and subcontractors, including insights into proposed price/cost and finance-related agreement terms & conditions; subsequently track and manage post-award financial performance.
  • Monitor, forecast and report financial performance of project and Division direct and indirect initiatives, budgets/targets, including but not limited to those for revenue, components of revenue, profit/fee, labor utilization, indirect costs, equity initiative costs, backlog, receivables and unbilled receivables.
  • Ensure Division compliance with governing procurement regulations as well as corporate financial policies and procedures.
  • Ensure timely preparation of all client billings, review and approve the same prior to submission to the client and address collections on invoices not paid promptly.
  • Provide financial basics training, and promote financial knowledge among the Division operations staff in support of project budgets and increase financial understanding via outreach and communication especially in high-risk areas such as compliance, fixed price contracts, etc.
  • Assist in identifying cost variations or other project and Division risk areas; assist in developing mitigation plans and document all for later use in audit support.
  • Support pricing efforts for new proposals and existing project re-budgets.


Education, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or Economics with at least 5 years of relevant work experience working in the areas of the federal government, state & local, and commercial contracting.
  • At least 3 years of experience with projects funded by USAID or other international funders.
  • Demonstrated experience in finance and cost accounting, proposal pricing, and budgeting.
  • International field office financial management experience, including U.S. dollar to local currency exchange rate conversions, is a plus but not required.

 Skills:

  • Superior ability to organize, prioritize, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment to consistently meet established timelines.
  • Strong knowledge of the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and various contract types.
  • Fine attention to detail, the ability to deal with confidential information, high level of proficiency in accounting systems (preferably Deltek Costpoint, QuickBooks, and Cognos analytics).
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communicator continually demonstrating sensitivity to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel, including experience with large data sets and complicated budgets.
  • Above-average initiative; highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work well independently and collaborate as a member of a team.
  • Proficient in using standard Microsoft 365, including OneDrive, SharePoint, Excel, Word, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. Employment-based visa sponsorship (including H-1B sponsorship) is not available for this position. Depending on project work, qualified candidates may need to meet certain residency requirements.

AIR’s Total Rewards Program , is designed to reward our staff competitively and motivate them to achieve our critical mission. This position offers an anticipated annual salary of $98,000 to $105,000. Salary offers are made based on internal equity within the institution and external equity with competitive markets. Please note this is the annual salary range for candidates that are based in the United States.
