Job Description

The W. P. Carey School of Business is recruiting for a Financial Analyst within the Office of the Dean.  This individual will be responsible for working alongside the Business Operations Manager, Director, and/or Associate Dean’s to be a partner in ensuring their goals and strategic plans are implemented. This roll will plan, organize and coordinate the reporting and financial analyses for the assigned area. The position also develops and interprets detailed cost accounting information and makes recommendations regarding the efficient utilization of resources and the proper accounting for transactions. It requires exercising discretion and creativity as to work details on assignments of a varied, diverse and difficult nature. These functions also include advanced budgeting, accounting, payroll, staffing, academic services, and other functions designated by the unit administrator.

This position is a full remote work arrangement.

Essential Duties

  • Performs specific tasks related to rate development, including identifying cost centers and their related expenses, and calculating recovery rates (e.g., recharge, indirect cost)
  • Prepares related reports
  • Provides technical assistance in the design of cost accounting or reporting systems and related forms and documents
  • Monitors a variety of account expenditures, maintains and reconciles detailed budgets for various accounts, advises and/or determines which expenditures are within the budget guidelines; informs management of irregularities and proceeds with corrective action
  • Processes travel reimbursements, purchase of supplies, services, and equipment with use of P-Card and other purchasing documents in accordance with established procurement and financial policies
  • Recommends alternative solutions to cost accounting problems
  • Prepares related reports (e.g., pro-forma financial statements)
  • Assists in reviews of financial and internal controls to determine whether such controls are adequate to (a) meet management objectives and (b) ensure the safeguarding of assets
  • Interview employees at all levels to analyze policies, work procedures and operational methods
  • Performs specific tasks related to reviews of management practices and policies
  • Recommends changes to enhance operating efficiencies

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related area (or a Bachelor's degree with advanced accounting coursework) AND two years of auditing, cost accounting and/or financial analysis experience; OR, Master's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration AND one year of auditing, cost accounting and/or financial analysis experience; OR, six years of progressively responsible and diverse accounting experience and coursework; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Knowledge of cost and financial accounting principles, practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques used in conducting management studies, system analyses and financial analyses
  • Knowledge of internal control systems and procedures
  • Skill in performing complex numerical calculations
  • Skill in preparing complex management reports on a timely basis
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related financial and statistical software products
  • Skill in both verbal and written communication

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse (75%); frequently required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work (25).
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
  • Calculator, telephone, computer (monitor, keyboard and mouse), printer, fax and copier.
