The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition (Pediatric GI) at the Stanford University School of Medicine, is seeking a highly organized, motivated, and professional Financial Analyst to perform complex financial functions and/or activities requiring advanced knowledge and application of internal policies, external regulations, precedents, and systems.

At 50% FTE, the Financial Analyst will work independently and collaboratively with the Clinical Division Manager to conduct financial analysis and manage financial activities for all non-sponsored funds, including the clinical and operating budget, gifts/endowment, Executive funds, and all other unrestricted fund with an estimated annual budget of $12 million. He/she will be responsible for preparing ad hoc financial reporting, establishing internal control, leading the reconciliation and audit process, oversight of all p-cards and travel cards, processing cost transfer journals and labor distributions, providing recommendation and training on internal processes and procedures, and providing guidance and communication on University’s policies. The Financial Analyst is expected to review all financial transactions, and be the backup for processing transactions for other team members as needed.

For the remaining 50% FTE, the Financial Analyst will serve as the Division’s Research Administrator in facilitating the pre-award/proposal submission process for our research faculty and staff. He/she will work closely with the School’s Research Process Manager and the Department’s Research Financial Analyst to coordinate and communicate research related activities.

The ideal candidate is expected to intuitively translate incoming requests and indirect requirements into achievable goals, while anticipating future needs. The Financial Analyst will create systems and processes through which objectives are met in a timely manner and with the highest quality.

The Pediatric GI Division has ~30 pediatric gastroenterologists with nationally recognized expertise through their research, teaching, and clinical programs. We have a mission of healing children with digestive disease through innovation. Our Pediatric GI Specialty provide comprehensive GI care to children throughout our region. The Division is rapidly expanding with long-tenured faculty, staff, and leadership. The Financial Analyst will have a great deal of exposure to clinical and research areas and will be communicating with a broad range of individuals at the Executive level, internally and externally. Within the Division, there is a strong operations team of about 10 people. Duties include:

  • Perform structured analysis; conduct data mining; identify, clarify, and investigate discrepancies and exceptions; proactively develop solutions and processes.
  • Maintain, reconcile, review, combine, and validate financial data sets and accounts, utilizing financial reports, financial databases, and key financial information.
  • Contribute to development of budget, forecasting, and analyses to be used for key activities or decision making.
  • Run and analyze financial reports, often from multiple systems; assist in preparation of management information reports.
  • Resolve issues within immediate work unit; Perform preliminary analysis, recognize exceptions and recommend solutions that may require policy changes or the development of new processes.
  • Participate as a member of a project team and contribute to change management strategy through communication and collaboration with others.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Advanced proficiency in business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
  • User knowledge and demonstrated experience of financial systems; internet and computer literacy.
  • Understanding and ability to apply basic accounting skills and concepts.
  • Demonstrated communication skills, including ability to prepare materials for and clearly and effectively communicate information to internal audiences and client groups.
  • Basic project management skills and ability to contribute as part of a project team.

  • Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork.
