Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of the Financial Aid Counselor position is to manage daily, weekly, and monthly reports associated with the Office of Financial Aid involving but not limited to Federal Pell Grant, Federal TEACH Grant, Transient Study, and Unofficial Withdrawals. This position will also provide information regarding financial aid policies and procedures to students, parents, and colleagues. In addition to these duties, this position will also have specific programmatic responsibilities.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school and one year of related office experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
University Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from high school and demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities gained through four years of specialized office experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Essential Job Duties
  • Perform specialized duties in support of the Pell Grant and TEACH Grant programs.
  • Reconcile Pell Grant and TEACH programs monthly and for year-end closeout.
  • Responsible for unofficial R2T4 calculations.
  • Determine eligibility and award the Federal TEACH Grant.
  • Analyze and review output reports for awarding and disbursement accuracy.
  • Resolve discrepancies.
  • Process electronic data files to COD.
  • Answer student and staff questions regarding federal programs and their requirements.
  • Coordinate with other institutions to resolve Pell MRRs.
  • The position will also process and monitor the Transient Study program.
Other Work Responsibilities
  • This position will perform other job duties and special projects as assigned or directed.
  • Assists in researching rules and regulations concerning eligibility and participates in determining office policy and procedures.
  • Reviews student records and makes decisions regarding aid eligibility and compliance.
  • Collects data and provides necessary reports to senior management.
  • Must meet time service deadlines on work as well as critical federal and state deadlines.
  • This position counsels with students by a variety of means including in person, by phone, and email.
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • At least 2 year of higher education experience, preferably in performing R2T4 Calculations or Federal Grant Processing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must have strong attention to detail.
  • A strong customer service mentality is essential.
  • Working knowledge of the federal, state and institutional requirements regarding aid administration is preferred.
  • Banner experience is preferred.
  • Experience with NSLDS, COD, and CPS Software.
