SUMMARY:

The Financial Aid Advisor II – Competency Based Education, under direction of the Associate Director, serves as a subject matter expert for financial aid best practices relating to Competency Based Education programs. Counsels and corresponds with prospective, current and former students on matters pertaining to financial aid while also providing students with accurate information regarding the application process, including federal, state, institutional funds and loan programs, if applicable. Provides and promotes service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as primary contact for the Competency Based Education (CBE) & Pride Pathway programs within the Colleges of Innovation & Design and Education & Human Services.
  • Performs disbursement reconciliation and troubleshoots account discrepancies.
  • Communicates and counsels' students on various requirements associated with enrollment in CBE programs.
  • Monitors enrollment reports to determine financial aid eligibility. Updates student records and notifies students as needed.
  • Develops and maintains process guides for CBE awarding and troubleshooting.
  • Work closely with technical support staff to ensure proper function of BANNER processes associated with CBE and enrollment reports.
  • Assists CID academic advisors and staff with prospective students and their transition to current students.
  • Assists in the planning and execution of special events for specific audiences and in support of departmental initiatives.
  • Coordinates and serves as a resource for competency-based education programs for financial aid.
  • Provide support to the Associate Director of Financial Aid – Dallas.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: One (1) year related experience in advising or financial aid advising. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Oral and written communication skills. Customer service skills.
  • Ability to: Ability to multitask and work collaboratively with others. Ability to work independently. Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. Ability to relate well with a varied student population.
  • Requires: Hybrid work option available, stipulations may apply. Some evenings, weekends and travel may apply. Ability to perform outreach duties as required.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

Experience in advising, planning or in higher education preferred. Knowledge of competency-based education. Bilingual preferred. A thorough and working knowledge of federal, state, and Texas A&M University- Commerce laws, regulations, practices and procedures pertaining to student financial aid a plus. Experience with all Department of Education delivery systems. A thorough and working knowledge of BANNER or other Student Information Systems (SIS).
